What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy uses a combination of practices that work together to bring greater health and freedom to all levels of being including the physical, energetic, and mental-emotional levels:
- asana (yoga poses)
- pranayama (breath awareness)
- mudra (hand positions)
- mantra (sound practices)
- sankalpa (intention)
- bhavana (guided imagery, visualization)
- yoga nidra (yogic sleep)
- dhyana (meditation)
My Client History
Since I began seeing clients in 2004, I have had the privilege to work with students who suffered from a variety of health issues, injuries and disabilities. In my practical experience, I have found that yoga and the process of turning inward is beneficial for people dealing with injury and chronic illness. It allows them to listen to their bodies in new ways that can have a grounding and healing affect on the emotions as they move toward a better understanding of themselves. As we work together to uncover the root causes for imbalance, the entire person is treated rather than just the symptoms. My clients have come to me with the following conditions:

What Should I Expect?
- During our first appointment, you will be asked questions about your past and present health concerns, exercise routine, pain management, and medical care. We will then explore various yoga postures and other techniques based on what you are hoping to accomplish in our sessions.
- You will receive personalized yoga sequences that will guide your home practice reinforcing what we work on together. These sequences are a valuable part of the program because they chronicle your progress as well as give you confidence to practice on your own.
- Home practice is a very important part of Yoga Therapy. We will come up with a plan based on your schedule and other exercise routines, that will enable you to succeed in your goals. Clients who are diligent with their home practice see results much more quickly than those who choose not to practice on their own.
- It is recommended that you purchase a series of sessions and schedule the sessions every other week or every three weeks. This arrangement gives us ample time to find out what works for you as well as giving you a chance to make these yoga techniques part of your life between sessions.
What My Clients Are Saying

I have just completed a series of three private yoga sessions with Cheryl at her studio in Bahama. She is a thoughtful listener who is knowledgeable regarding yoga and anatomy. She helped me to understand how to modify poses to accommodate my physical issues. She also created some yoga sequences for me to use at home when I cannot get to a yoga class. I feel better prepared to continue my yoga practice. I would highly recommend Cheryl. -Shelley B. Cheryl is incredibly knowledge about the human body is able to expertly tailor yoga sequences to your particular needs. Her approach is holistic and practical. Mary H. It is an honor to be in the presence of Cheryl as a yoga teacher for someone (like me) that feels intimidating by all the pressure for what that discipline brings. She KNOWS and shares areas to practice yoga that many teachers are ignoring such as Sound Healing and Mudras. She brought me to my center through her knowledge and expertise for me to continue using these two wonderful jewels in my daily life! - Claudia R. Around the holidays last year, I reached out to Cheryl and said that I wasn't feeling well, but still wanted to do my daily yoga, which I had started in November. I downloaded one of her Yoga Nidra albums and have used it SO much over the past five months and it's really helped. It has been a very positive influence in my life. -Nissa K. |
Cheryl is awesome! She listens to your specific needs and works with you to design a plan that works best for you. She is very calming and has a great personality. - Jodie F. I am a long time yoga practitioner, having studied with Iyengar teachers for over three decades. In addition, within the past decade, I have earned certificates from Judith Lasater to teach Restorative Yoga. My practice is central to my everyday life experience. Last year, it was my privilege to observe Cheryl when she taught six individual yoga therapy sessions to my husband over a period of several months. I can't say enough about how skilled and thoughtful Cheryl is in her work. She took a detailed health history which included issues with his back and hip which made it difficult to walk. She designed the sessions to work with breath, comfort in movement and ongoing challenges. Each time she came she asked about how things were going and recorded this in her notes. She left diagrams and explanations of the poses done in each class to encourage home practice between sessions. Her explanations and answers to questions were clear and encouraging. My husband states that of all the things he tried in seeking to alleviate the pain (acupuncture, physical therapy, cortisone shots, chiropractic) that the yoga lessons with Cheryl were the most effective. During this period, I purchased the two CD's (Yoga Nidra and Yoga Nidra for Healing.) I started listening to them myself and found them to be very helpful as I worked with my own stress. I particularly appreciated the Yoga Nidra for Insomnia segment. I've used this one regularly and find that my sleep is deeper and more restful. Cheryl's work is thoughtful, clear and encouraging! We both enjoyed her upbeat personality as well as her knowledge of how to work with my husband's individual areas of concern. Brava, Cheryl! - Thea M. |
