adaptive asana
inspire your teaching and practice
The third limb of yoga, asana, literally means "seat" and most of the Hatha yoga postures use this suffix as part of their Sanskrit names. In asana you are consciously aware of both movement and breath simultaneously. When we move without conscious awareness, it can be considered exercise, it is the mindfulness and breath awareness that make it yoga. Asana is said to open the channels (nadis) in the torso and limbs so that our prana, the vital energy each breath, can flow more easily to all parts of the body.
You will find many variations and adaptations of common yoga postures here including simple warm-up stretches, seated and standing poses, forward and back bends, twists, inversions and restorative poses. These instructions are meant to be a reference guide for both teachers and home practitioners. They are by no means a substitute for qualified yoga instruction.
