Understanding Yoga through Knowledge and Practice

WRITING & YOGA WORKSHOPS:

Developing a regular yoga or writing practice requires focus and commitment, as well as openness and flexibility. Yoga instructor Cheryl Fenner Brown and writer Eleanor Vincent have developed a unique series of workshops that combine yoga asanas and writing exercises to open your mind and body to new sources of inspiration and find a more fulfilling way to write from your center.

CENTERING & CREATIVITY (Saturday, March 13, 2010)

  • Learn simple yoga postures to help you fully inhabit your body so you feel centered and grounded as you practice the art of “letting go.” Writing exercises designed to silence the inner critic and encourage creative flow complement the yoga postures.

FOCUS & FEELING (Saturday April 17, 2010)

  • Use heart-opening yoga postures to make writing more emotionally honest and balancing postures to increase focus and determination. Capture inspiration with mind mapping techniques and left brain writing exercises as you release your fears about writing.

VOICE & VISION (Saturday May 15, 2010)

  • Use chanting and vocalization to energize the throat chakra and activate your authentic voice. Learn hand gestures known as mudras to get in touch with your intuition and inner wisdom combined with writing exercises that help bring your authentic voice to life on the page.

To Register: Take a single workshop for $50 or the entire series for $125. Sign up online at Uptown Yoga Studio or if you would like to register by check, download the form and mail it in to the address provided.

TESTIMONIALS:

"I was nervous to come - worried the yoga would be too hard or the writing too personal (or required sharing). I felt welcome here and had nothing to worry about. I opened my body and my mind had no choice but to follow. The resistance was almost nonexistent. I felt fluid."

"You integrated the practices well and honored the abilities and intentions of the group with grace. You were certainly well-prepared and modeled the practices - including the suspension of judgment - quite nicely."

"The workshop has taken my exhausted, heavy frame and left me feeling buoyant and clear. I am leaving far more grounded than when I entered, more ready to write."

"I felt the instructors were very qualified to lead the class. They clearly have experience and were receptive to the individual class participants."

"We were given plenty of time for the yoga poses and writing exercises. I enjoyed both aspects equally and found my ability to write to be much easier."
