Mudras for Meditation
This group of mudras can be helpful during quiet meditative moments and can help with anxiety, stress, balancing the emotions, integrating mind and body and overactive mind.
Seal of Prayer
Press the hands together gently leaving a small hollow space between palms; hold hands over the heart and draw the forearms parallel to floor.
Benefits: Invokes connection between our light and the light within others
Practice Tips: Use to honor yourself or another person, also helpful for anxiety
Seal of Buddha
Touch tips of thumbs and index fingers together. Hold hands in front of chest, left palm facing heart, right hand facing out. Touch right thumb and index to left middle finger.
Benefits: Balances energy of inner world with that of the outer world
Practice Tips: Use when you are spending too much energy externally or too much internally.
Seal of the Tortoise
Curl right middle and ring fingers into palm, turn right hand face down onto left palm and clasp the middle and ring fingers of each hand together. Touch right thumb to left inner wrist, right index finger to left thumb, right little finger to left index finger, wrap left middle, ring and little fingers around back of right hand.
Benefits: Stills mind, brings presence, draws awareness inward to enhance Pratyahara
Practice Tips: Use when suffering from "monkey mind"
Seal of the Trident
Curl the pinkie finger down into the center of the palm. Use the thumb to hold the pinkie finger in place and extend the other fingers straight. Rest the backs of hands on the lap.
Benefits: Increases concentration and mental clarity
Practice Tips: Use when you are having difficulty accessing your own inner wisdom.
